Tulsi Gabbard Blasts the Biden Administration’s ‘Identity Politics’
Former Congresswoman and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard has been a principled progressive for decades. Yet the Biden administration is veering so far to the Left on some cultural and policy matters that she is now emerging as one of its most vocal critics from within the Democratic Party.
Gabbard just slammed the president’s “identity politics” and warned that race-obsessed politics are “destroying our country.”
To be clear, Gabbard wasn't anti-Biden from the get-go. In fact, she endorsed him in the 2020 general election after ending her own campaign. But she seemingly thinks he's gone way off the rails.
The Context
The former Hawaii representative’s comments come amid the news that Biden is only considering black women for his upcoming Supreme Court nomination. That's right: He's barring from consideration all white or non-black people and all men. In doing so, the administration is limiting itself to a tiny fraction of available qualified candidates for a vital position on the Supreme Court.
Gabbard says this is a big mistake.
Tulsi Gabbard's Warning for the Biden Administration
“He should not be choosing a Supreme Court justice based on the color of their skin or sex,” she tweeted. “But rather on their qualifications & commitment to uphold our Constitution & the freedoms guaranteed to all Americans in that document which is the foundation of our nation.”
Gabbard connected this approach to the same identity politics that motivated, at least in part, Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as vice president.
“Biden chose Harris as his VP because of the color of her skin and sex—not qualification,” Gabbard said. “She's been a disaster.”
Gabbard famously warned Americans about Harris in 2020. She went viral after roasting the then-presidential candidate over her “deeply concerning” record on criminal justice issues.

Biden Isn't Learning His Lesson
Harris’ approval rating has fallen as low as 28 percent in some recent polls. Gabbard pointed out the fact that Biden seemingly isn’t learning a lesson.
“Now [Biden] promises to choose Supreme Court nominee on the same criteria,” she lamented. “Identity politics is destroying our country.”
