What the Durham Report revealed is more dangerous than January 6. But will anyone care?
When the Durham Report was released last week, we learned that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Justice Department, with a major assist from the media, attempted to frame Donald Trump forcolluding with Russia. We learned that the FBI had favored and assisted Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, even giving them defensive briefings.
To summarize: The FBI tried to help the Democrats win an election and then undermine a presidency.
That’s not democratic.
Surely those worried about the threat to democracy on January 6, 2021 due to the Capitol Hill “insurrection” would also be concerned about this, right?
Or as conservative pundit Erick Erickson put it:

The people who complained about January 6 did raise hell - they were mad that anyone was taking the Durham report seriously.
Let’s sample MSNBC alone.
Host Nicolle Wallace said, “This whole thing is predicated on… it’s like a rabbit hole conspiracy…”
“This is a predictable, sad, ending to an investigation that never should have taken place,” former FBI agent Peter Strzok (who was fired from the agency for anti-Trump texts sent to his girlfriend) assured us.
“What you have with John Durham is a big, fat nothing,” said MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissman.
Democratic strategist James Carville said, “Durham is kind of a pathetic character.”
So much for intellectual honesty.
Yet, these were the same voices who insisted the January 6 rioters represented an “insurrection,” attempting to overthrow the U.S. government.
If I say it was just a protest that got out of control, but that those who committed crimes that day should be held accountable, most leftists would be horrified that I would diminish J6 in this way (to be clear, this is what I believe).
The political and media establishment need for January 6 to be an “insurrection” of massive consequence to reinforce their own feelings about Trump, ‘Trumpism’ and Republicans in general. They do have an argument. They also have a deep emotional need to believe their faulty insurrection narrative version of what happened on that day.
But a weaponized government agency working to determine the outcome of a supposedly democratic election?
A “big, fat nothing.”

The Left is just as invested in the Durham Report not being true as they are in January 6 being on par with 9/11.
What happened on January 6, 2021 was not a threat to democracy. It was a threat to civility. A grand display of foolish and embarrassing behavior in our nation’s Capitol, but at no time was another country or insurgent group in any serious position to actually overthrow the U.S. government and replace it with a new one. Nor were ‘stop the steal’ true believers ever going to change the outcome of the presidential election.
What happened with the FBI and the 2016 election, according to John Durham’s four year probe, was that a powerful government agency worked extensively to ensure one major party took power. When that effort failed, it went to war with a democratically-elected president that the agency and entrenched Washington was not comfortable with.
Which was more of a threat to actual American democracy? Which one still is?
Don’t expect to hear any answers from establishment politicians or media.
But to give credit where it’s due, NBC News’ Chuck Todd asked some real questions an actual journalist might after giving serious and professional consideration to Durham’s findings.

“This is not an FBI that should feel good about what Durham discovered,” Todd said on Sunday morning’s Meet the Press.
“Trust in the FBI is eroding left and right,” Todd said. “Feels like we’re in the moment that we need a real Church Committee. This is a moment like when the J. Edgar Hoover FBI clearly was no longer helping the American people. There was a moment.”
“This feels like we might be in one of those moments,” Todd added.
It is one of those moments. If you care about democracy. If you care about threats to it.
Now watch how many actually care.
