Texas calls on the federal government to investigate COVID
Remember when you were considered a conspiracy theorist if you suggested the coronavirus came from the very prominent lab in Wuhan, where the disease was first detected and where we suspected they were performing gain-of-function research on animals that could easily create such an illness?
And remember when all the super serious “experts” assured us it definitely came from someone eating bat soup in the town…as if that’s something people do.
Well, thanks to the work of Sen. Rand Paul and the White Coat Waste Project (where I am a Fellow), that narrative finally fell apart (after much censorship and deception to shield it) when it was conclusively proven that the US was funding the Wuhan lab, and that that funding was used to perform dangerous and illegal gain-of-function research on animals.
Now, the vast majority of Americans and experts believe that the most ‘likely’ origins of the disease are indeed a lab leak out of Wuhan. But we still don’t know that because most of our lawmakers have refused to take action, and because those involved with this research continue to work to block information on their activities.
Leave it to Texas to have a come to Jesus with the federal government. This week, state lawmaker Briscoe Cain introduced a heavy-hitting new resolution demanding that Congress finally investigate the matter and figure out once and for all if the U.S. did fund the creation, and subsequent leak of, the coronavirus. Cain has been at the forefront of several other based policies in the past as well, including ending taxpayer-funded lobbying and school choice.
“The citizens of the State of Texas have the right to know if wasteful government spending on taxpayer-funded experiments on bats and humanized mice caused the death of over 1 million Americans and over 6.6 million people worldwide,” the resolution begins.
It goes on to say that, “The United States Congress has a duty to the citizens of the State of Texas to promote the general welfare, and the President of the United States has a duty to ensure that the laws of the United States be faithfully executed.”
Hard agree. In failing to see if our tax dollars were used to create arguably the biggest global catastrophe of all time, specifically through mechanisms that broke our own existing laws (gain-of-function research was banned through 2017), our leaders are failing to do their basic jobs of upholding our laws and welfare.
The resolution also points out the bombshell 2022 Annual Threat Assessment from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that states, “"One Intelligence Community element assesses with moderate confidence that the first human infection with SARS-CoV-2 most likely was the result of a laboratory-associated incident, probably involving experimentation, animal handling, or sampling by the Wuhan Institute of Virology." (emphasis added).
Finally, the resolution calls on Congress to launch an investigation into the origins and “ensure that the investigation is conducted without influence by the government agencies and personnel involved in funding this research; and issue a final report summarizing the findings of the investigation, without redaction, and make the report available to the citizens of the State of Texas in its entirety.”
Were it not for the relentless work of WCW and Sen. Paul, we wouldn’t know half of what we now know about this pandemic. It’s great to see other leaders, like Cain, taking up that torch and demanding answers for the American people—both for accountability purposes, and to ensure such a thing can never happen again. This is exactly the right role for states to play in this matter, and let’s hope the pressure campaign results in action.
