Sowing division: How Russia, grifters, and misogyny are undermining the Right from within
The Department of Justice dropped an indictment yesterday against two employees of Russia-controlled media conglomerate RT. The indictment alleges they funneled nearly $10 million through a Tennessee-based company over the past year to produce online content furthering Russia’s agenda.
While these allegations remain speculative for now, there are growing connections between the indictment and a company owned by Canadian far-right provocateur Lauren Chen and her husband, Tenant Media. The owners of the company were apparently aware they were working with Russian interests, yet the indictment shows they took care to deceive commentators involved about the source of their funds. Some of the alleged commentators include Dave Rubin, Tim Pool, Benny Johnson, and three others…
This is of course not the first time the US government, and particularly Democrats within it, have accused Russia of meddling in an election. And while we now know many of the claims they made regarding meddling in 2016 were patently unfounded…
While we are still awaiting full details, one thing is clear, Russia’s main goal was not a policy outcome here. While they certainly have a vested interest in affecting perceptions of the Ukrainian war, their ultimate goal is to sow chaos and division — both in the US and Europe…
What better way to sow division than by turning half the country against the other half? Narratives framing Western women as ‘ruined,’ painting marriage as dangerous, or claiming that women shouldn’t have rights create wedges between men and women, driving partisan lines deeper. Who benefits from this? Not men, not women, and certainly not Americans.
Many right-of-center women, myself included, have observed a disturbing rise in this rhetoric over the past two years…
