Outrage mounts after more taxpayer dollars go to COVID scientist

You’re probably unfamiliar with the name Peter Daszak, but we need to change that.

While Dr. Anthony Fauci eagerly inserted himself in the spotlight as the coronavirus crashed onto our shores, there were other scientists in the mix who preferred to stay behind the scenes. Daszak was one of them.

What you may have heard of is Daszak’s company - EcoHealth Alliance. This is the non-profit Fauci’s NIAID basically used as a pass through organization. They awarded the group with millions of taxpayer dollars that EcoHealth then took and planted in the Wuhan Lab of Virology in China to carry out gain-of-function research on bats.

Increasingly, there is more and more reason to believe that what was once branded as a conspiracy (COVID-19 was created in and leaked from a lab in Wuhan) is the god’s honest truth in the situation. And that means EcoHealth and Fauci have some explaining to do. Instead, the NIH recently renewed three of the group’s grants to continue carrying out taxpayer-funded, risky experiments on animals.

Incredibly, the funding will allow EcoHealth to carry out the same kind of research on bats that is linked to the coronavirus in Southeast Asia. What could go wrong??

As Senator Joni Ernst has pointed out, this is the equivalent of giving known arsonists money to conduct fire safety inspections. And encouragingly, she recently introduced a bill that would prevent any more taxpayer dollars from being spent in this manner.

“NIH got it right when it canceled the funding for the experiments EcoHealth Alliance was conducting with China’s state-run Wuhan Institute,” Ernst said. “In addition to violating multiple federal laws, EcoHealth has still not turned over documents about these dangerous studies that NIH has requested on multiple occasions that could offer vital clues to the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“I have introduced legislation to guarantee EcoHealth doesn’t receive another penny from any federal agency and to launch an investigation to determine once and for all how much U.S. taxpayer money was funneled into labs in China by EcoHealth,” Ernst concluded.

According to the Daily Mail, EcoHealth Alliance has received over $60 million in taxpayer-funded grants over the past decade, and Daszak seems to enjoy a particularly close relationship with Fauci.

The organization has peculiar origins as well. It appears to have launched as a “save-the-manatees” animal welfare group that then sold out somewhere along the way in exchange for government grants it now uses to torture animals. They have become one of the top champions of gain-of-function research, a practice that is so harmful and so risky it was banned in the US under Obama’s tenure.

An in-depth expose on the group published by Vanity Fair found, “murky grant agreements, flimsy oversight, and the pursuit of government funds for scientific advancement, in part by pitching research of steeply escalating risk.” It also noted the work Daszak put in behind the scenes to downplay the lab leak theory at the beginning of the pandemic.

In leaked communications, Daszak reportedly wrote to Fauci to thank him for, “publicly standing up and stating that the scientific evidence supports a natural origin for COVID from a bat-to-human spillover, not a lab release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Totally normal stuff. Not sus at all.

As Justin Goodman, senior vice president of advocacy and public policy at White Coat Waste Project, told BASEDPolitics, “EcoHealth Alliance’s animal experiments should be de-funded, not re-funded. As we first exposed, this shady group funneled US tax dollars to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for dangerous animal experiments that likely caused the pandemic, skirted a federal ban on gain-of-function research, repeatedly violated transparency law and obstructed investigations into COVID’s origins. Yet, records show that EHA has continued to receive millions of taxpayer dollars just since the pandemic began. We applaud Sen. Ernst for working to ensure that taxpayers are not forced to fund this reckless rogue lab contractor any longer."

"Stop the money, stop the madness,” Goodman added.

The moral of the story is this: the federal government shouldn’t be carrying out dangerous, harmful experiments on animals period. There needs to be serious investigations into the origins of this pandemic, which the true impact of we will be realizing for decades to come. To continue padding the pockets of the likely culprits of all this is lunacy in the highest degree.
