Journalist Andy Ngo scores big court victory against Antifa
Journalist Andy Ngo is finally receiving justice after his lawsuit against Antifa, a left-wing communist group that engages in violent protests throughout the country.
In 2019, Ngo, known for reporting on Antifa-related violence, was covering a confrontation between Antifa and the Proud Boys when group members assaulted him. They egged him, threw a cement "milkshake" at him, and covered him in silly string.
The incident footage shows that the attack was entirely unprovoked by Ngo, who was filming the event. After the attack, Ngo shared photos of himself battered and bloodied and had to go to the hospital for a reported brain hemorrhage.
It is important to note that this is not the first time Antifa has used violence against reporters. In 2017, Taylor Lorenz was punched in the face by an Antifa member while filming a protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, which Ngo reported on.
Following the incident, Ngo sued Rose City Antifa for the physical attack. His case was resolved on Monday.
“The court ruled in favor of Post Millennial senior editor Andy Ngo on Monday in his civil trial against the remaining three alleged Antifa defendants that had physically attacked him in June 2019 in Portland, Oregon,” the Post Millennial reports. “Defendants Corbyn ‘Katherine’ Belyea, Madison ‘Denny’ Lee Allen, and Sammich Overkill Schott-Deputy were found liable by Judge Sinaplasai for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Each defendant has been ordered to pay Ngo $100,000 in damages.”
This court decision is a win for free speech.
It is one thing to verbally criticize what someone says online or in person and another to resort to physical violence, as Antifa sometimes does. Yet it has been challenging to hold Antifa activists responsible for their violent actions since they often wear masks. However, this win sets an important precedent that not only is no one above the law, but that in the United States, you still can’t assault someone just because you don’t like what they have to say.
