Between 1995 to 2016, the US implemented 20 times more rules and regulations than it did actual laws. Meaning your elected representatives are not the ones mostly governing your life or the economy. Instead, it’s a bunch of faceless bureaucrats whose names we don’t even know.
The growth of the regulatory state has been referred to as the fourth branch of government. But no matter what you call it, it’s a perverse corruption of the very foundations our country was built upon. You cannot have a functioning democratic republic if you don’t even get to vote for the people making the rules.
Fortunately, some Republicans are getting smarter when it comes to fighting back against this culprit, which at the end of the day, is more responsible for the growth of big government than almost anything else. Their weapon of choice is called the REINS Act, and it just passed the Kansas legislature.
