Fact check: Biden White House caught in big inflation lie
Today’s a day that ends in y, so the Biden administration is gaslighting us about the economy. The president’s most recent misdirection comes courtesy of the official White House Twitter feed, which just, bizarrely, claimed that workers’ inflation-adjusted wages have risen during Biden’s presidency.
“Inflation-adjusted income is up 3.5% since POTUS took office and low-wage workers have seen the largest wage gains over the last year – helping power our economy,” the account tweeted. “Bidenomics is growing the economy from the middle out and the bottom up.”

There are positive economic figures that Team Biden could tout, like the low unemployment rate. But the claim they made instead is simply factually untrue.
In reality, inflation-adjusted wages are down roughly 3% since Biden took office. Inflation-adjusted average hourly earnings were $11.41 in January 2021. As of June 2023, they had fallen to $11.05.
There is no way to spin these numbers. American families have lost $7,400 due to inflation under Biden’s watch, and workers' real wages have gone down, not up.
The White House can attempt to pin the blame for these facts elsewhere, if it wants. But it can’t choose its own facts or make up its own reality.
