Donald Trump is right about Israel and Gaza
Donald Trump just said something that a lot of Americans need to hear.
That a lot of conservatives need to hear.
“There is no hatred like the Palestinian hatred of Israel and the Jewish people,” Trump told the Mexican-American news outlet TelevisaUnivision in an interview.
He’s right. The anti-semitic hatred Israelis have to endure every day is something most Americans can’t comprehend, one of the worst examples being the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7.
But what Trump said next is just as true.
Trump said, “And probably the other way around also.”
He’s right. The hatred and abuse endured by Palestinians by Israel’s government is something most Americans can’t comprehend either, as seen in a major way by the many innocent lives being ended in Gaza right now, where the casualty rate has been higher than past conflicts.
But so many American politicians and so much of mainstream media behave as if the Palestinian tragedies are not part of the equation. Not part of the story. Not part of what anyone should care about.
That’s worse than absurd - it’s inhuman.
Trump is saying, no, both sides are guilty of heinous acts.
He continued, “I mean what’s happening to Gaza is unbelievable, It’s horrible, it’s horrible on both sides.”
Why is it necessary to recognize that it really is both sides? Because how do you ever get to peace eventually without recognizing that? The US shouldn’t be involved at all, but unfortunately we have been for a very long time.
Think what you will about Donald Trump, but he is one of the few high profile American political figures to voice the plain reality that both sides bear guilt.
Especially saying this to his largely Republican audience.
Many of whom need to hear it.
