Huh? Biden's State Department gave $20k to fund drag shows in this random foreign country
Sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction. And the many ways the federal government wastes our money are far stranger than anyone could imagine. The latest such example is a $20,000 grant the State Department gave to fund drag shows—not even here in the US, but in a random foreign country.
“The State Department awarded a $20,600 grant on Sept. 23 to the Centro Ecuatoriano Norteamericano (CEN), a non-profit organization supported by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Ecuador, to "promote diversity and inclusion" in the region,” Fox News reports. “The project at CEN, which started Sept. 30 and runs until Aug. 31, 2023, will include ‘3 workshops,’ ‘12 drag theater performances,’ and a ‘2-minute documentary.’”

“The State Department has awarded hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to the CEN over the years, but the September grant appears to be the first of its kind funding drag performances,” the reporting continues.
The Biden administration clearly has… interesting… priorities.
Now, look, as long as it’s only involving adults, I really don’t care if people want to have a drag show. But why the heck would that be something taxpayers should subsidize or fund, even in our own country—let alone random foreign nations?
Yeah, it’s just $20,000, which in the grand scheme of our federal budget, isn’t a whole lot of money. But the fact that multiple federal bureaucrats and their supervisors actually signed off on this—in an office somewhere, they really had a meeting and said “this sounds like a good use of tax money!”—illustrates the disdain with which government officials treat our money. After all, as Milton Friedman famously pointed out, they’re unelected bureaucrats responsible for spending other people’s money on other people: so what incentive is there to be frugal or restrained?
It’s also particularly egregious to be sending our money abroad like this at a time when Americans are struggling to afford essentials like food and gas, thanks to the inflation this same branch of government created.
I wish I could say this was an outlier. But, unfortunately, examples of the government wasting our money in absurd ways like this are far too numerous to count. Yet we’ll keep highlighting these stories until people finally wake up and realize that we have to stop trusting these people with so much of our hard-earned money.
