On the same day Tucker Carlson accuses elites of ‘colluding,’ they get caught colluding
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson made his first comments on Wednesday evening since parting ways with the giant cable news outlet, accusing the government and elites of “colluding” in support of a “one-party state.” Calling most debates in mainstream media “unbelievably stupid” and meaningless, Carlson said in a short viral video, “And yet, at the same time… the undeniably big topics, the ones that will define our future, get virtually no discussion at all.” He listed some, “War, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources — when was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It’s been a long time.” https://twitter.com/TuckerCarlson/status/1651376097349578753 Carlson continued, “Debates like that are not permitted in American media. Both political parties and their donors have reached consensus on what benefits them, and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it.” “Suddenly, the United States looks very much like a one-party state,” he added. “That’s a depressing realization. But it’s not permanent.” During a White House press conference on Wednesday, President Joe Biden was caught holding a cheat sheet that gave him advance knowledge of a question topic from a reporter. https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1651364962206461956 How would he know the subject of journalists’ questions in advance? Obviously on some level the White House and the media colluded. Biden reportedly didn’t know the verbatim language of the question, but he knew the subject of the question. In other words, he knew basically what was coming. “Another cheat sheet showed the names of other Biden administration officials to relay the order remarks would be delivered at the press conference,” the New York Post reported. That’s not how an actual press is supposed to work. My friend and colleague Brad Polumbo had a good question. https://twitter.com/brad_polumbo/status/1651410544681705475 The question basically answers itself. https://twitter.com/rosscoulthart/status/1651384410200240128 Obviously, Carlson mentioned collusion between the political parties and donors specifically, but when the media is repeatedly outed as more of a tool of the government than its critics, the whole apparatus shows all kinds of colludin’ going on. This isn’t good. In authoritarian regimes, the press is almost always state-controlled, where genuine questions, dissent, and free speech are banned. After Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said last weekend that “I believe that when it comes to broadcast television, like Fox News, these are subject to federal law, federal regulation in terms of what’s allowed on air and what isn’t,” it was but the latest admission that the government and mainstream media increasingly work in tandem. https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1650254768667762688 I compared AOC’s anti-free speech comments to the overwhelming dismissal by the federal government and mainstream press of the Twitter Files, in which a group of legitimate reporters found significant data showing federal agencies worked with Twitter to censor news and opinion. I wrote just Monday, “The reason there has been no outrage on the Left over the Twitter Files is because, between the Donald Trump phenomenon and the COVID-19 pandemic, people who were already warm to central planning now see no reason that principle can’t also be applied to speech and the press.” “The Twitter Files reporters thought they were revealing a rogue federal government,” I noted. “The Left was annoyed that these reporters revealed what they now consider good and efficient government.” Everyone saw that government and media collusion on full display with Biden’s cheat sheet controversy on Wednesday. I’m sure more of the press present were more annoyed they were discovered than the actual major breach of journalistic ethics.
