Anti-Trump writer Sam Harris admits the media tried to swing election for Biden—and actually defends it
Well-known writer and podcaster Sam Harris admitted in a recent interview what many on the Right have long suspected: When the Hunter Biden laptop story about questionable emails and overseas business dealings broke right before the 2020 presidential election, the media, Big Tech, and the intelligence community did everything they could to censor or dismiss it in order to improve Joe Biden’s chances against Donald Trump. “Hunter Biden literally could have had the corpses of children in his basement, I would not have cared,” Harris recently told the Triggernometry podcast. “There’s nothing, it’s Hunter Biden, it’s not Joe Biden. Whatever the scope of Joe Biden’s corruption is…it is infinitesimal compared to the corruption we know Trump is involved in.” “It’s like a firefly to the sun,” he added. https://twitter.com/ComicDaveSmith/status/1560323224973578242 “It doesn’t even stack up to Trump University. Trump University, as a story, is worse than anything that could be in Hunter Biden’s laptop, in my view,” Harris continued. Harris then acknowledges—and defends—the censoring of the Hunter Biden laptop story by the New York Post published in October 2020, just over two weeks before the presidential election. He said it was “warranted.” “Now that doesn’t answer the people who say ‘it’s still completely unfair to not have looked at the laptop in a timely way and to have shut down the New York Post’s Twitter account,” Harris explained. “‘Like that, that’s a left-wing conspiracy to deny the presidency to Donald Trump.’ Absolutely it was,” he admitted. “But I think it was warranted.” Really, now? HE thinks it was warranted. I did not vote for Donald Trump (nor did I, nor would I ever, vote for Joe Biden). But guess what? Republican democracy isn’t just about me. (Or Sam Harris!) Presidential elections and our overall democratic, constitutional system of governance aren’t just about me and my political opinions. In an alleged democracy, elections are about all of us. I have my vote. My fellow citizens have theirs. We all enter the voting booth ideally as members of a well-informed electorate. That’s the job of the press. We should be learning facts and truth, not cherry-picked news by agenda-driven elites. What Harris is saying is that the heavily-left leaning media was right to censor a perfectly legitimate story about the son of a presidential candidate because Harris and those who think like him had deduced that Biden would be better for the country than Trump. That they should—and did—help decide for us. https://twitter.com/willcain/status/1560304813077921792 The “left-wing conspiracy” in that 2020 moment that Harris fully acknowledges included Big Tech banning the Hunter Biden story from being shared as well as the intelligence community claiming it was “Russian disinformation.” That’s what they wanted Americans to believe in order to help sway a major election. To date, Nancy Pelosi, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger have not demanded congressional hearings on this. In March 2022, the New York Times finally admitted the Hunter Biden story was real. The Washington Post vindicated the report later the same month. Again, no hearings. No investigation. Not much said about it at all by Washington leaders, really. Meanwhile, on January 6, 2021, thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in what would become a dark and embarrassing day for our country. Many of them presumably believed that the presidential election had been stolen from Trump by a corrupt elite who favored Biden. Whatever discrepancies might have occurred, as they do in any election, great or small, I do not believe the 2020 presidential election was stolen at various ballot boxes as former President Donald Trump continues to claim. https://youtu.be/9zlaaP4ct7E I do believe if a presidential election were actually stolen—that the peoples’ vote or Electoral College was rigged somehow by the establishment class to change an outcome—upheaval similar to what unfolded on January 6, 2021 might be understandable. Genuine justified outrage is obviously going to manifest itself in some fashion. (See the George Floyd protests.) Left, Right, or Center, bonafide revolts are going to look like something. So, when the millions of Republican voters who still might believe the 2020 election was fraudulent see a prominent liberal like Harris explicitly confirm what they already assumed—that the political and media establishment was actively working to prevent a second Trump presidency by suppressing genuine news—why is it a stretch for them to believe Trump’s claims about the election being stolen from him? Why wouldn’t they believe the press is the “enemy of the people” as Trump claimed? Sam Harris is saying out loud not only what nefariously happened, but how many anti-Trump Democrats and Republicans justify outright censorship in their minds of news they don’t like. Powerful people manipulating the news cycle to manipulate an upcoming election. How is that not a threat to democracy? Why wouldn't Trump devotees believe the former president’s claims about election fraud when the mainstream media that mocks his claim—and them—transparently DID TRY to help swing an election from a news perspective? Physical violence can threaten democracy. So can misinformation. So can censoring the truth.
