2 things Republicans should investigate the FBI & intelligence community for

Congress must intervene and stop this madness.

Republicans are back in control of the House, having (finally) landed on a new Speaker of the House last week. Now, they’re turning their attention to governing and, as National Review reports, one of the first orders of business will be a resolution to form a Judiciary subcommittee on the “weaponization of the federal government.” The subcommittee will be specifically focused on the ways law enforcement and national security agencies have been used to target our own citizens for their political beliefs.

Umm, heck yes.

Representative Chip Roy, who was one of the holdouts in supporting the new Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, told Fox News that this was one of the concessions offered to detractors in order for McCarthy to secure his new leadership position. The new speaker has apparently vowed to give the subcommittee at least as much staffing and funding as the committee that investigated the January 6 riot.

This is a pretty big win for those of us legitimately concerned with the tactics of the federal government under the Biden administration. The subcommittee will more than have its hands full if it intends to get to the bottom of corruption in agencies like the FBI, the DOJ, the NSA, the DOH… the list goes on.

Here are the top 2 controversies they should look into.

1. The DOJ and FBI investigating concerned parents as violent threats

Democrats spend a lot of time whining about threats to democracy. But when concerned parents took to school board meetings to protest pandemic policies, curriculum changes, and other woes in the education system—a prime example of democracy at play—the DOJ worked to investigate them as violent threats.

The National School Boards Association sent a letter to the Biden administration labeling these parents as “domestic terrorists.” In response, Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the FBI to investigate these parents and even reportedly made use of counterterrorism tools

As I said at the time, “From the videos that have circulated online, it would appear these school board meetings have certainly become verbally heated. But thus far, those claiming threats of violence against the elected officials have produced little to back up their claims. Furthermore, if such incidents do occur, the proper protocol would be to report them to local police. This issue would, by definition, not fall under federal jurisdiction.”

Using the FBI and the DOJ to attempt to investigate parents for simply weighing on their kid’s schooling is as politically corrupt as it gets. There need to be real answers for this behavior, and policies put in place that guarantee it can never happen again.

2. The FBI encouraging Twitter (and likely other social media platforms) to censor Americans

Thanks to Elon Musk, we finally have proof that the FBI lobbied Twitter to suppress the free speech of countless Americans—and that they were aided and abetted in that by many politicians and other government agents in the process.

This is one of the most sinister attacks on free speech in recent memory, and given what we’ve learned from Twitter, there’s no telling just how pervasive this practice is across other platforms.

We do not live in a communist state where the government gets to control the flow of information or silence those who speak out against its official narratives. It’s time Congress gets to the bottom of this circus and deals with each and every person who orchestrated and carried it out.

Focus on What Really Matters

The FBI has a long and rampant history of violating the fundamental rights and liberties of the American people, and they’ve done so with few repercussions or even official reprimands. It’s high time Congress actually does its real job by setting policies that protect our basic constitutional rights and ensuring the government and its agents do not overstep those boundaries.

The courts can strike down unjust laws, but they can’t do much to reign in this kind of corruption that largely takes place beneath the surface. So, Congress must intervene and stop this madness.
